Calitec Hot Water System KP-50

Energy efficient heat pump hot water system by refrigerant circulation

The Calitec KP-50 Refrigerant Cycle System is specifically designed for distance split system setups, making it ideal for upgrading or replacing existing hot water cylinders.

With minimal energy loss in the connecting refrigerant pipes, this system offers flexibility in locating both the heat pump outdoor unit and the hot water cylinder. Utilizing R32 refrigerant and being PV solar (smart) inverter ready, it ensures efficiency and adaptability.

As the heat exchanger coil is built into the hot water cylinder, the cylinder becomes a part of the system. We offer stainless steel hot water cylinders in sizes of 250 and 300 litres. Additionally, our 300L cylinder is available with a wet-back coil.

Whether you are considering replacing an existing water heating system, building a new home, or simply exploring your options, we are here to assist you. A Calitec refrigerant cycling split system could be the perfect solution for your needs.

Features

  • Distance split installation: With nearly lossless refrigerant pipes and the heat exchanger built inside the cylinder, our system allows for a maximum pipe length of 20 meters, providing ample flexibility in locating both the cylinder and the heat pump outdoor unit.

  • High temperature output: The heat exchanger integrated into the hot water cylinder enables water to be heated to 60°C solely using efficient heat pump power.

  • Fast recovery time: Boasting an output power of 4 kW, our system can heat up 85 litres of water per hour (∆T=40°C), almost twice the capacity of a standard electric heating hot water cylinder.

  • COP of 3.65: With a Coefficient of Performance (COP) of 3.65, you receive 4 kW of heating power from just 1.1 kW of electric power, resulting in an impressive 73% saving on your water heating costs.

  • Longevity and durability: Made with a stainless steel casing and high-quality components, our system ensures durability, capable of withstanding the harsh New Zealand environment, including coastal areas.

  • Installation: Installation must be carried out by a plumber and a heat pump installer, with minimal assistance required from an electrician.

  • Simplicity: The Calitec System is designed to be an intelligently controlled "set and forget" system, delivering a reliable hot water supply regardless of weather conditions or time of day.

  • Peace of Mind Warranty: Backed by a 5-year warranty on the Mono Block and a 20-year warranty on Calitec hot water cylinders, you can trust in the reliability and longevity of your water heating system. For full warranty details, click here.

How does it work?

This Calitec system operates as a refrigerant cycle split system, where the outdoor unit pumps refrigerant through a coil (heat exchanger) inside the hot water cylinder. Here, the heat is released, and the water is heated. With a maximum 20-metre pipe length between the outdoor unit and hot water cylinder, you have the flexibility to place the outdoor unit out of sight.

Our system is intelligently controlled, functioning as a "set and forget" system. It ensures a reliable hot water supply regardless of weather conditions or time of day, saving you up to 70% of your hot water costs. With an average shower costing about $1, you could save up to 70 cents with every shower. (Based on a calculation of 40 cents per kilowatt-hour, 40°C mixed water, and 71 liters of water, equating to approximately a 7-minute shower.)

The Calitec KP-50 System is designed and built using the highest quality parts, intended to last at least 10-15 years. After this time, if your outdoor unit requires replacement, there's no need to replace the entire system. Our Duplex stainless steel hot water cylinders are insulated with Polyurethane Foam for optimal efficiency.

In the event of a heat pump failure, the emergency heating element of 3 kW can be activated, providing a backup solution for an uninterrupted hot water supply.
